Educational philosophy

Edogawa University's educational philosophy is "Human Cultivation." In other words, we strive to create human resources who can contribute to society through comprehensive education filled with human kindness and the specialized knowledge required by the era.

Mission and objectives

Our mission and objectives are determined by Article 1 of our School Regulations: "In accordance with the principles of the Fundamental Law of Education and the School Education Act, we offer instruction across a broad range of knowledge based on the spirit of the school's foundation (educational philosophy). By doing so, we aim to develop human resources with abundant human qualities and the ability to master the ideologies and philosophies of the specialized fields of sociology and psychology and actually put them into practice."


All Students Are Lent a Laptop Computer and Learning Support is Provided through Well-Developed ICT Infrastructure

- Each student is lent a laptop computer. Students are able to connect to the internet both inside and outside buildings on the University grounds, allowing students to obtain information and study wherever they choose.
- Students learn theory in the classroom and study practical application through seminars and practicals. In this way, they obtain useful skills while maintaining a proper sense of perspective.
- Support is given to allow students to obtain qualifications, including a teacher-training course and subjects offering other qualifications.

College of Sociology

In the College of Sociology, students acquire the latest knowledge and learn about the latest technology to gain the keys to understanding and being open to our changing society. The faculty also helps students become confident and active in society.

Department of Psychology and Humanities

The Department of Psychology and Humanities offers two courses: Psychology Course and Counseling Course. In both courses, the emphasis is on laboratory experiments, inquiries and field work to learn the basic concepts of psychology, while in the Counseling Course students learn how to help people with various psychological difficulties be better adapted to their social environments.

Department of Contemporary Sociology

A Sustainable Society is one that has adopted a set of sustainability principles: environmental conservation, economic development, social development, and cultural diversity. This Department is designed to provide four major courses which help in developing an eco-welfare society for the 21st century. Sustainability Studies are still new in colleges and universities in Japan, but this Department is designed to offer a degree program for this interdisciplinary study.

  3. Environmental Studies
  4. Education/Museum Studies

Department of Business Management

In the Department of Business Management, students enjoy learning about "living management," from global business to fashion and sports. The department also helps develop the will, ability, creative power, and applied skills of students in order for them to participate actively on the front lines of the business world.

College of Media and Communication

The College consists of the Department of Mass Communications where students are trained to analyze and understand in theory and practice the role of the constantly changing mass media and the news, messages, and information disseminated by them, and the Department of Communication and Business, where students learn about new methods of communication for the Internet age. It provides foundation for those who wish to be of use to society through communications-related activities.

Department of Mass Communications

The Department prepares professionals in mass media and the media related fields by making good use of theory and practical guidance provided by people and alumni active on the front lines of the media industry with studios and multimedia classrooms equipped with latest technology.

Department of Communication and Business

In this department students gain practical skills and knowledge related to information, language, culture, and business. They also learn how to propose and carry out projects that are in tune with the current climate of an information society that is constantly changing. It nourishes bold spirits that desire to start new businesses.
